SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in the Ilocos Region has assigned eight road-safety teams to strategic locations to assist motorists and commuters during the expected increase in travel for Undas 2026.
The deployment was announced following a send-off ceremony on October 23 at the LTO regional office in Barangay Sevilla, San Fernando City, La Union. The operation is part of the Department of Transportation’s Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Undas 2026 and is scheduled to continue until November 4, according to a Philippine News Agency report published October 26.
The teams are expected to monitor compliance with traffic regulations, assist travelers, and promote road safety as families travel to cemeteries and memorial parks for All Saints’ Day on November 1 and All Souls’ Day on November 2.
The LTO’s Regional Law Enforcement Section will conduct roadside inspections, anti-colorum operations, and checks on vehicle roadworthiness, registration, and drivers’ licenses.
The agency will also run information campaigns at transport terminals and in public areas to remind motorists and passengers to follow traffic rules and practice responsible, defensive driving.
The deployment is intended to help prevent road crashes and support safer travel throughout the holiday period. However, the announcement does not establish that road accidents will be eliminated or that every major route will have a dedicated LTO team.
For motorists traveling across Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan, the agency advises checking vehicle condition before departure, observing speed limits, avoiding distracted driving and never driving under the influence of alcohol.
Drivers are also encouraged to plan their trips, allow sufficient travel time, and remain alert, particularly on busy roads and routes leading to cemeteries.
The published report does not specify the exact locations of all eight teams or provide a detailed checkpoint schedule. Motorists should therefore consult official LTO, police and local government advisories for current traffic arrangements rather than assume that a particular road will be subject to a specific restriction.
As Undas approaches, responsible driving, properly maintained vehicles, and cooperation with traffic authorities remain important to help families travel safely.
