Baguio commits to sustaining peace and public safety

BAGUIO CITY, September 15, 2026 — The Baguio City government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining peace and public safety after a resolution recognized the city as under a State of Stable Internal Peace and Security.

The Philippine Information Agency reported that the commitment was marked by the signing of a People’s Pledge of Commitment during the September 14 flag-raising ceremony. The activity followed the reading of City Council Resolution No. 709, series of 2026, which adopted and endorsed a City Peace and Order Council resolution on the matter.

PIA said the declaration was based on assessments and recommendations from the Joint AFP-PNP Security Council Committee. It recognized the efforts of local government, security forces, government agencies, and communities in maintaining peace and public safety.

The designation does not mean that all security risks have disappeared. The same report emphasized that sustaining peace requires continuing cooperation, preventive measures, community resilience, and institutional support.

For residents, success will be measured by whether the commitment translates into effective public services, accessible reporting channels, responsive institutions, and safe community environments.

The city and its partner agencies will need to sustain their work beyond the ceremonial declaration. Transparent reporting on peace-and-order initiatives and community engagement can help residents understand how the commitment is being implemented.
