The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, through the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office (INTO), launched the first ever Grill’IN! BBQ and Food Festival as part of this year’s provincial fiesta celebration at Sexy Beach, Municipality of Pasuquin, on May 11.
Attended by food and music enthusiasts along with different provincial officials, this debut gave emphasis on Ilocos Norte’s abundant passion for gastronomy by displaying various Ilokano cuisine.
Bringing together a vibrant community of merchants, ‘Grill’IN!’ offered an array of delectable Ilokano BBQ dishes and irresistible treats. The event commenced with a “BBQ Cook Off,” where representatives of Local Government Units showcased their grilling prowess, with each dish serving as a testament to the skills of Ilokano chefs.
Laoag clinched 1st place, Badoc secured 2nd place, and Solsona took 3rd place in the “BBQ Cook Off.”
Adding to the festivities, local bands Mattilda, Magrus, and Break the Code, infused the festivity with their music, further amplifying the sense of celebration.
Senior Board Member Rafael Chua Medina underscored that the event showcased Ilokano culinary pride and unity of the province.
“We are able to showcase our different Ilokano recipes, and we are able to showcase our unity as Ilokanos in our province.”
With an aim to celebrate Ilokano culture holistically, the ‘Grill’IN!’ BBQ and Food Festival is part of the province’s roster of events and activities from April 25 to May 25, 2024.—Don Lj Martinez and Ryand Angelo Ugalde, PGIN-CMO Interns
