Bauang, La Union – Hon. Henry A. Bacurnay, Jr., Acting Mayor, welcomed former secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Dr. William Dollente Dar; together with the CEO of Prasad Seeds Philippines Incorporated, Mr. Hemanth Karumanchi, during their courtesy call to the municipality.
Dr. William D. Dar hopes to form a collaboration with LGU Bauang and Prasad Seeds Philippines Incorporated to improve corn production and increase the number of hectares planted with corn in the municipality.
The collaboration aims to renew ties between the company and the town’s corn farmers using Prasad Seeds which would assist them in the promotion and information dissemination.
“The company will provide an incentive system to the LGU through the Municipal Agriculture Office and they will seek a Farmer Leader to lead their project in Bauang.”, said Dar. In addition, the company shall hire a Corn Coordinator and Technician, preferably from the municipality, who will be compensated to assist the local corn farmers.
To address farmers’ issues and concerns, Prasad Seeds has a new management team with new competent technicians and improved their processes which challenged them in the previous years. To date, Mr. Abdul Mentong is the new Territory Manager who shall oversee the implementation of the program in the municipality.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Agriculture Office, led by Dr. Alan I. Gamueda, Officer-in Charge, in coordination with Mr. Renato Hernandez, President of the Bauang Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations (BACNGO), will organize a meeting with farmers to introduce the company and its programs.
