Ilocos Norte gets gov’t aid after typhoon Egay’s devastation

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) received critical government funding amounting to P68 million from the Office of the President’s Socio-Civic Projects Fund as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. visits Ilocos Norte, today, following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon “Egay.”

On June 26, ST “Egay” battered Ilocos Norte for two (2) days, reaching Tropical Cyclone Warning System Signal No. 4 in certain municipalities located in the northern part of the province, resulting in an estimated initial damage of P3.2 billion.

PGIN received P20 million, while each of the 21 municipalities received P2,000,000.00, and two (2) cities received P3,000,000.00 each to aid in their recovery efforts.

In a significant gesture of support, the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance of P10,000.00 to 1000 of the hardest-hit residents in the province. Additionally, under the Emergency Housing Assistance Program, five (5) beneficiaries with totally damaged houses received P20,000.00 each to help rebuild their homes.

To address immediate electrification needs, generator sets were also turned over to the First and Second Congressional Districts of the province, ensuring access to electricity and facilitating recovery operations.

President Marcos emphasized a “whole-of-government approach” in addressing the effects of the super typhoon throughout Northern Luzon, prioritizing the safety of the people and the rehabilitation of areas affected by the onslaught.

As the recovery process continues, President Marcos said that the national government will remain actively engaged, closely monitor the situation, and provide additional aid and support as needed.

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc expressed his gratitude to President Bongbong Marcos Jr., Senator Imee Marcos, the national government agencies, and the neighboring provinces for their unwavering support and assistance extended to Ilocos Norte, as he continues to lead province-based post-calamity relief operations.

In the face of adversity, the collective efforts and solidarity demonstrated by all stakeholders have significantly strengthened Ilocos Norte’s resilience and determination to recover and rebuild-Mariell J. Pahinag, PGIN-CMO.
