After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) gears up for the 10th “Tan-ok ni Ilocano: Festival of Festivals” (The Greatness of the Ilocano), the grandest cultural festivity, on February 24 at the newly refurbished Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium in Laoag City.
The return of “Tan-ok” is anticipated to draw a record-breaking crowd with 12, 000 seats booked in the first few hours after the online ticketing system was launched including around 4, 000 performers and staff such as dancers and propsmen. Visitors from other provinces are also expected to flock the stadium with “a much wider audience space”.
The province’s 21 municipalities and two (2) cities are now at the final stages of their participation as they altogether highlight the greatness of their respective culture and heritage. The performers attended the final technical rehearsal last night, February 22.
“Tan-ok” was launched in 2011 by then-Governor Imee Marcos as part of an initiative to revitalize cultural pride and Ilokano identity through narrative-driven shows created by local creatives.
Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc also led an inspection and met with the partner agencies and PGIN department heads last night. -Mariell Pahinag, PGIN-CMO.
