In light of the global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) which affects the Philippines, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc confirmed in a press conference yesterday that Ilocos Norte remains free from the disease.

“This week, we have one person under investigation (PUI) who later tested negative. At present, we also have several potentially-under monitoring but we’re keeping it confidential for now. Thankfully, wala pa tayong confirmed case ng COVID-19 dito sa Ilocos Norte at ‘yon ang gusto naming i-emphasize.”

Gov. Marcos Manotoc also urged everyone to practice proper hygiene and other preventive measures to avoid acquiring the disease:

“I know you have heard this many times but let’s practice healthy lifestyle; wash your hands, drink plenty of water, minimize going to public places. At the same time, stay calm. Let us not get carried away. Our priority is the health of our province and we’ll find a way to protect the Ilokanos.”

At present, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) continues to strengthen its preventive measures against COVID-19.

COVID-19 is a new respiratory virus that causes flu-like symptoms as well as severe pneumonia. It originated from Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China.

Based on the latest report of the DOH, there is a total of 49 positive cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, recording its first Filipino death related to the disease as of writing. – Stewart C. Ocampo, PGIN-CMO
