VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur, Jan. 31 (PIA) – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Luzon Cluster I has been intensifying its commitment to strengthen the country’s gig economy through the conduct of more Digital Jobs PH Technical Trainings.

In Vigan City, 19 triumphantly completed the Digital Jobs PH course on Social Media Marketing and Advertising.

Ten of them were recognized as medalists during a graduation program held at the Lyceum de Ylocos here on January 10.

One of the medalists is 29-year old Evelyn Visperas, a junior and senior high teacher at St. Mary’s College in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.

“I initially joined the training because I wanted to learn and then adapt a freelancing course for senior high students in our school,” Visperas shared.

The training course commenced on November 13, 2019.

Students went through 10 days face-to-face lectures on social media marketing and management, digital content creation, and community engagement among others.

After this, they underwent a rigorous 21-day online campaign where they created their online branding to land freelance jobs.

During the online campaign period, Visperas snared not just one but three freelance jobs that dwelt on social media management and graphics design.

One of the companies that hired her is an Australian company.

“Noong nakuha ko ‘yong mga clients na ‘yon, siyempre ‘yong unang pumasok sa isip ko is kaya ko naman palang kumuha ng mga ganoong klaseng trabaho, aside from my regular day job,” she said.

She further shared that if she’ll be able to get higher-paying projects in the future, it will open an opportunity for her to be a home-based working mom so she can be more hands-on with her two kids.

The training was conducted successfully through the partnership of the DICT Luzon Cluster I with Lyceum de Ylocos.

The Digital Jobs PH project of the government aims to capacitate locals in socio-economically disadvantaged and digitally deprived areas to help them find work as digital entrepreneurs and freelancers.

In 2019, around 2,000 Filipinos nationwide have been trained under the project.

This year, the Department intends to conduct more trainings in more locations, with the rising clamor of more local government units to cater to their constituents. (JCR/AMB/PIA Ilocos Sur with reports from DICT)
