Further enriching her knowledge on strategizing the development of Ilocos Norte, Gov. Imee R. Marcos attended the World City Summit Mayors Forum (WCSMF) in Singapore yesterday, July 10.
The WCSMF is an annual by-invitation only global event for leaders to have discourse on urban issues and share their experiences and best practices in terms of building economic and environmental resilience, sustaining a high quality of life, and establishing community engagement.
Chaired by Mr. Lawrence Wong, minister of national development in Singapore, the forum carried the theme “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Innovative Cities of Opportunity” tackled through two sessions on innovative solutions and innovative governance.
The first session discussed the social aspect of urban challenges such as the effect of housing, transportation, and economic development on social equity and integration; the second one focused on how leaders re-organize their approach to innovations and governance.
“We want finally to become… the best province in the country… As we modernize, we will manage urbanization, taking on the challenges of housing, transport and water management today while we still have the chance to map a sustainable Metro Ilocos,” Gov. Marcos promised in her 2014 State of the Province Address (SOPA).
The governor is set to deliver her SOPA, renamed “Timpuyog,” by the first week of August.—Mizpah Grace G. Castro, PGIN-CMO
