Accenture, one of the world’s largest management consulting, technology services and outsourcing companies, finally opened its branch in Ilocos Norte on March 4, 2016 and is set to offer 5,000 jobs in the next few years.
Governor Imee Marcos said that this large operation will bring more quality jobs to people in the province, as the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) strengthens its Task Force Trabaho Campaign. She added that 200 professionals will be hired as pioneer employees.
“Finally, after your long and determined efforts from 2008 until today, we are opening in Ilocos Norte…We are counting on you to accelerate growth through reliable, well-paying and fulfilling jobs for our youth,” she said during her speech, welcoming and recognizing the people behind the project led by Manish Sharma, Global Delivery Lead for Accenture Operations.
“With centers in Manila and Cebu, and now in Ilocos, Accenture further strengthens our ability to create a greater impact for our clients globally and in the region with a sharp focus on health administration and finance operations,” Sharma stated.
The Ilocos Delivery Center will initially provide Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services to health administration and finance clients across Europe and North America.
‘A fresh alternative’
Noting the high percentage of outmigration in the province, Gov. Marcos sees the career opportunities in Accenture as “a fresh alternative, a genuine opportunity not only for economic benefit but more importantly, for social benefit and true family unity” because Ilocanos need not to find work outside Ilocos Norte.
During a press conference last year, Lead of Accenture Operations Delivery Center in the Philippines Benedict Hernandez shared that their primary reason for choosing Ilocos Norte as the location for their third delivery center is the “impressive” Ilocano talent and the availability of optimal telecommunications infrastructure in the province.
He further cited Governor Marcos’ aggressive support to their investment plans.
“(Gov. Marcos) has been the stalwart champion and promoter for the region to actually attract BPO companies and we are here because of her tremendous effort to promote the province. We give a lot of credit to the governor,” he shared.
Since 2012, Gov. Marcos has intensified the effort of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) to promote the province as a prime destination for BPO companies.
Furthermore, she said that PGIN will intensify its efforts to promote the province as an investment hub in order to generate more job opportunities for the Ilocanos.
“We want more and better jobs to provide adequately for our families, both in our cities and in the far flung rural areas. Every Ilocano has the choice of working overseas or one day working here at home,” during her 2014 State of the Province Address.—Jennifer T. Pambid, PGIN-CMO
