“One could use his/her own mobile to send SMS and submit Citizen Reports, through Mobile Applications with quick access to reporting and trough the Web,” Dr. Regina Justina Estuar, the Project Leader of eBayanihan. The eBayanihan Disaster Reporting System is a project of the Ateneo de Manila University, DOST, DILG along with other institutions. “We have partnered with several LGUs like Bauang which are also pilot LGUs for the eBayanihan,” she added.

Among the pilot barangays for the eBayanihan System who likewise attended the orientation were the coastal barangays of Baccuit Norte, Pugo, Parian Oeste, Pudoc, Payocpoc Sur, Pilar, Paringao and the upland barangays of Disso-or, Palugsi-Limmansangan and Acao.

“We believe this system will provide us with a mechanism to report the situation in our respective areas and have access to the general information and request for resources, manpower and necessities and this is a great help to my constituents especially that the SMS sending is free,” Punong Barangay Marivick Bulacan of Pilar said. The residents of Pilar evacuate during storm surges and heavy rains because of the vulnerability of their barangay.

Apart from the Punong Barangays, Mr. Micheal Sabado from the NDRRMC-Office of the Civil Defense, representatives of the AFP 51st IB, MDRRMC members were in attendance for the said activity.
