DAGUPAN CITY, August 15 (PIA) – Expect Dagupan to draw more tourism activities with its “island tours” which will take tourists on a cruise to the island villages.

The island cruise will be launched in October in time for the opening of the Dagupan Product Center and the “Rimat Ti Amianan” (Treasures of the North) Trade Fair.

Island Tours Dagupan CityThe three island cruise boats, also designed after China and the United States, offer ferry trip to tourists along scenic Dagupan island barangays such as Salapingao, Pugaro, Calmay and Carael.

It will also pass through barangay Lucao and Sitio Tocok for visitors to have a closer look at the city’s designated oyster zones.

The city government did not spend a single centavo for the construction of the cruise boats as Mayor Belen Fernandez solicited the support of Unilever Philippines, Mondelez Philippines (formerly Kraft Foods Philippines) and Procter and Gamble.

Fernandez said that this project will not only promote tourism but also provide livelihood opportunities for Dagupeños living in the island barangays.

She has already instructed the City Social Welfare and Development Office to organize a group of women who will cook fresh seafood and other delicacies for local and foreign tourists visiting their island villages.

“We will not only offer our visitors Dagupan bangus but also other seafoods like malaga, talakitok, alangat and crabs,” she said. (MCA/AMM/PIA-1, Pangasinan with reports from CIO)
