VIGAN CITY, ILOCOS SUR, July 20 (PIA) – Vigan hopes to get the support from any of the seven countries that did not make it to the top 21 eliminations in the New7 Wonder Cities search on July 7.
Edgar de la Cruz, Vigan city tourism officer, said the cities of Athens, Greece; Casablanca, Morocco; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Kyoto, Japan; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Prague, the Czech Republic; and Vancouver, Canada, which did not make it to top 21,are looking for cities to support.
Mayor Eva Marie Medina hopes that the campaign in Philippine embassies all over the world will push Vigan further to the next elimination round on October 7.
“Residents must continue praying that Vigan will be chosen,” she said.
Vigan has joined the ranks of 21 finalist-cities which include Bangkok, Barcelona, Beirut, Chicago, Doha, Durban, Havana, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, La Paz, London, Mendoza, Mexico City, Mumbai, Perth, Quito, Reykjavik, Saint Petersburg, Seoul, and Shenzhen.
As the search comes to a crucial phase, Vigan has strengthened its announcement that the city needs more texts.
“Text Vigan to 29290777,” the city’s collective voice announced on social media and in other media platforms.
As texting is the easiest, fastest, and best multiplier form of voting, the city government has now shifted from on-line voting campaign to text brigade, Edred Piamonte, the city administrator said.
