Ilocos Norte will commemorate its 208th Foundation Anniversary on February 2 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, launching a month-long celebration that honors the province’s heritage while advancing community development and cultural preservation.
The Provincial Government, led by Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, will kick off the anniversary with the distribution of aid and projects worth more than P 95 million to 2,800 beneficiaries, including community members, frontline workers, and livelihood sector representatives. The celebration will also launch a rollout of initiatives strengthening agriculture and fisheries through the provision of tools, livestock, and supplies, while disaster preparedness efforts will be reinforced with the turnover of equipment and service vehicles to local government units.

The opening program will also feature the presentation of the Little Provincial Officials, representing the next generation of Ilokano leadership, and the preview of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas commemorative coin honoring “Tan-ok ni Ilocano.”
From February 4 to 20, students across the province will participate in “Pasyar: Open Ilocos Norte Tours for Pupils,” a new educational program offering young Ilokanos firsthand exposure to government offices, heritage sites, and tourism destinations. The initiative pairs northern municipalities with southern towns, fostering cross-provincial engagement and deeper appreciation for local governance and culture.
The anniversary will culminate on February 28 with “Tan-ok ni Ilocano: Festival of Festivals,” the province’s premier cultural showcase bringing together local festivals from across Ilocos Norte.
This year’s “Tan-ok” introduces an immersive 360-degree stage designed to offer audiences a unique viewing experience. Performances will draw inspiration from National Artist for Theater Severino Montano, an Ilokano theater pioneer, blending dance, music, and storytelling to celebrate the province’s artistic legacy.
Through the month-long celebration, Ilocos Norte reaffirms its dedication to community development, tourism, and livelihood programs, ensuring that progress and cultural pride remain central to the province’s continuing journey.# Allyssa Charisse G. Magno, PGIN-PIO
