“Egay” leaves P3.2 billion damage in Ilocos Norte

Ilocos Norte has sustained P3,206,700,006.00 (P3.2 billion) in infrastructural and agricultural damages due to Super Typhoon (ST) “Egay” (International Name: Doksuri) according to the partial and estimated data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) dated today, July 28.

Losses in infrastructure have reached P2.8 billion, while the agriculture sector has suffered P361,039,106.58 in damages.

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc stated, “The worst has passed, but there is still more work to do. So, we will continue to be on red alert—not PAGASA’s red alert, but in terms of our response. We will remain on red alert in the next few days until we are truly back on our feet. But, in the words of PBBM, ‘Babangon ang Ilocos Norte.’”

Moreover, ST “Egay” affected at least 233 barangay, almost 60,000 individuals, and damaged almost 1,400 houses. In terms of human life, four (4) casualties were recorded.

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte immediately conducted post-calamity relief operations, headed by Gov. Marcos Manotoc, even airlifting goods to an isolated town. Almost 8,500 relief packs were already distributed.

As of this writing, only 13.95% of Ilocos Norte has been re-energized with electricity service, while 88.08% of consumers have regained access to water service.

“Egay” battered Ilocos Norte for two (2) days, reaching Tropical Cyclone Warning System Signal No. 4 in certain municipalities located in the northern part of the province.-PGIN-CMO
