(BAB/PIA-1)[/caption]SAN FERNANDO CITY, Feb. 20 (PIA) – On February 18, the newly elected officers of a regional communication organization dubbed as Association of Regional Government Information Officers of Region 1, Inc. or ARGIO-1 took their oath of office at the Department of Agriculture Office, here.
The re-elected president of ARGIO-1 is Esperanza Tinaza from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Vice-President is Danilo Balino of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
Both will lead the organization in the execution of various activities within the region such as learning and development trainings, outreach programs and other information dissemination events for three years.
As embeded in the newly ratified Constitution and By-Laws of the Association, Tinaza appointed Ma. Katherine Somera of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and Divine Joy Picar of the Department of Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
As for the policy making body, the Board of Trustees chosen by the general membership were Mike Aldrin Sabado of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Zenaida Paday-os of DENR, Ethelreina Sugando of the Department of Health (DOH), and Atty. Jonathan Bansigan of the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP).
“Our aim is to strengthen the network of our regional line agencies and other government institutions to create awareness and innovate communication programs and activities on numerous public services that our stakeholders can avail and participate,” said Philippine Information Agency regional director and ARGIO-1 adviser Jennilyne Role who presided the General Assembly.

“In behalf of the officers, I am very grateful for the trust and confidence that you (the members) have given to us, and we will try our very best to ensure that the objectives of the organization will be achieved,” Role added.
According to its ratified Constitution and By-Laws (CBL), one of the organization’s objectives is to lead the government info officers in bringing the government programs closer to the people and at the same time, conveying the people’s sentiments to government’s awareness through various public information activities.
“I have witnessed how this group progressed because I was also a part of it years ago, and I commend the efforts of the hardworking information officer-members for continuing, sustaining and innovating meaningful programs,” said Civil Service Commission-Region 1 (CSC-1) Director IV Hedy Jose Lardizabal in his message as inducting officer during the ceremony.
Before the election, the reading and ratification of the CBL was executed by the members, and an orientation and update of DOH Medical Officer IV, Dr. Rheuel Bobis on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was also done.
The officers will be serving their term from 2020 to 2023.
ARGIO-1 is a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registered association since 2013 but has been implementing programs for decades now under the supervision of PIA in the Ilocos. (JCR/AMB/AHFF/JTQ/PIA-1)
